Sermon July 6 2025
7 Sundays of easter, Pentecost, trinity, corpus Christi, saints Peter and Paul Ordinary time,
Today’s gospel is very appropriate to the ordinary life of the church, though it’s specific details may seem strange and hard for us to replicate, they are illustrative of who we are as Christians, as a church
After this the Lord appointed seventy others and sent them on ahead of him in pairs to every town and place where he himself intended to go.
Expansion from 12 in previous chapter to towns in Galilee to 70, all the nations
As a church we are always – being sent – the mass is ended, go in peace to love and serve the Lord
“The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; – raspberries – sense of urgency 2000 years on we might grow complacent – it looks after itself
Pray that the Lord of the harvest sends labourers – the Lord’s prayer, each morning and each night. Slowly, thoughtfully, with intention.
Go on your way. See, I am sending you out like lambs into the midst of wolves. Vulnerable lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil
Carry no purse, no bag, no sandals; and greet no one on the road. Dependent – give us this day our daily bread
You will find people of peace, offer healing, the kingdom of God has come near to you.
A wedding reception broke out at our produce market this past Friday
do not rejoice at this, that the spirits submit to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven.” Thy kingdom come. See signs but don’t focus on outcomes– see indeed your actions “thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven”
As the bride and groom received the blessed sacrament, holy food for the journey of marriage, may we offer ourselves today as we prepare to be feed at the Lord’s table and go from this place to love and serve the lord. Thanks be to God.
