In this sermon, I tackle the classic “Mary and Martha” debate: is it better to pray or to do? I argue against this either/or mentality, suggesting true transformation lies in integrating both. Martha embodies practical action and hospitality, essential for daily life. Mary represents contemplation and spiritual focus, nourishing the soul. The pitfall is being “so heavenly minded to be of no earthly good” or “earthly-minded” without spiritual depth. Drawing on Brother Lawrence’s “Practice of the Presence of God,” I show how every mundane chore can become loving God and neighbour, dissolving the sacred-mundane division. Discover how to cultivate this integration, living your values in action, and becoming both Mary and Martha for a profoundly impactful life.
